After some hard work and a steep learning curve, the Australian Society For Polar Philately has stepped into the 21st century with the launch of a website devoted to the hobby our members love.
Our intention is to make this the most comprehensive polar philatelic website in the world. As you all know, we live in the digital age and (while it may sometimes be challenging) this offers collectors many benefits. This new site can become an important source of research material and support – as well as a place for us each to showcase the exhibits we put together and the original research we create.
We also hope that it will encourage others to take up this wonderful hobby. With this launch, we believe that we are well on our way to achieving these goals.
Over the past month a number of our members have contributed some unique material to the site and it now contains the following sections:
A number of past polar exhibits from ASFPP members
ASFPP auctions, past and present
Details of a collector’s library
Suggested categories for organising your collection
An interactive timeline of polar explorers from 600 BC to 2000 AD
A collection of the best polar and polar philatelic videos
An expanding set of links and contact details for all polar societies around the world
Members Only Pages:
An archive of several past Penguin Views issues
An online research library with 100+ items relevant to polar philately
Guide to sending mail to the Antarctic
Our current members-only auction.
So we invite everyone to visit and check us out. All feedback is welcome!
